You are seeing: Home > Computer Room > Tip #2: Keeping Manuals
Most tips on this site help you to remove things; this section will help you decide what things to keep. Manuals are a very touchy subject, as people will keep these, even though they have disposed of the thing it refers to ages ago. These tips will help you decide on what to keep.
If you have a manual from 1980 that you haven't used since then, it's probably safe to throw it out due to its age. Manuals from around 2000, though, are up to you, as you will have to decide to see if you are still using the information.
If you have manuals for programs that you aren't using or own, this is a good sign to not keep it, as it is just taking up space. If you have a manual for something you don't use very often, it's a good idea to place it either in the trash or in a box to pull when needed. Only keep the manuals that are relevant to you.
If you have electronic versions of a manual, it is probably safe to say you won't need it. There are exceptions to this, and the only one who would know is you. For example, the paper version might be easier for your eyes to read.
If there's only a couple of manuals that tell you how to do something, you may want to keep it, as it will be hard to replace it if it is lost. There's no sense in throwing this out, because you may need to go back to it again.
