Project Reflection

Working on this project was a different design experience than I was used to. The whole team, along with the project stakeholders, were spread out across the country, making it quite difficult to collaborate. Amidst this challenge, our team set up regular conference calls with the project stakeholders to keep the design process moving. We would articulate what progress we had completed, along with the work that we needed to do. I enjoyed this working atmosphere because every member on the team had to be overly explicit with what they were doing, along with being clear about how much time we could dedicate to the project. I grew from this experience, as I was able to help take the design work I was working on (or collaborating on), and turn it into something the stakeholders can easily see in their browser. I also learned how to set up a site for someone else, as our team turned over the website when our work was complete.

Design Methods

  • Surveyed parents to learn why they would choose a charter school
  • Utilized a card sort of current information architecture to make information easier to find
  • Evaluated similar websites and other designs to learn users’ expectations
  • Sketching multiple concepts for design ideation
  • Helped to research, develop, and implement the design using WordPress
