Nonsentience is a puzzle which has puzzle and action elements. The protagonist’s goal is to find her way out of a mysterious laboratory which she was created in. The player can use an XBOX 360 wireless controller or the standard keyboard to play. There is an involved story, as well, which makes the player empathize for the protagonist.
This project was extremely fun and rewarding. This was my second game and I worked in a large team of artists, programmers, designers, and writers. I learned further how to communicate with my team members, as this project was spread out over multiple classes. I learned much more about the craft of music and sound for the use of storytelling and evoking emotion.
The creation of proper music and sound was critical to set up the emotion in this game. The scene is set in the future, so I had to create a palette of futuristic sounds, voice morphing, and metallic clanging. I also developed the sound and music in a room dedicated to teleprescence, which helped to make these elements extremely more polished. These elements of the game were created in Reason and Audacity.
Overall, this was a very rewarding experience. I was able to help out a large and experienced team to be able to create a game which was truly fun to play and have fun with.
