Zen touchscreen remote

Background

Many of our devices that we buy are accompanied with a remote, accompanied with a large variety of buttons and functionality.

The Zen remote is a concept to try to make the world of operating our devices easier by consolidating all of their functionaliy into one device with a touchscreen interface.

What I learned

  • Better insights for design are gathered by interviewing people and watching them interact naturally in their environment
  • A good design argument comes from research, told in a story
  • A simple clickthrough can help tell the story of the design and gather design improvements
  • Clean visual design and large touch targets are essential for touch-based interactions
  • Gathering one's ideas and putting them in a diagram can help when there doesn't feel like a means to move forward
